I never have greater opportunity to laugh at myself than when I play Bach. Those miscreant fingers rebel openly to my wishes, and this after hundreds of hours of practice. Really, what makes me think I’m doing better any place else, in the way I use my self in other activities, in my walk and my talk. F. M. Alexander called it faulty sensory awareness and none of us are immune. Just one reason why we all need Alexander Technique, to teach us humility and refine our awareness. Just like Bach.
Funny I went back to the 2 part inventions just this morning, and skipped like a little kid through the fumbles…just kept breathing. Easy to do when nobody else is listening!
Diane, thanks for your nice addition to the conversation. Best to you.
